Poster of a girl

I haven't posted anything in a long time, I got pretty busy for a while there! I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to the new year! I feel like it is going too fast already. But I do have a lot of free time now so that is promising! I have been doing a lot of reading lately... so drawing has been pushed back a tad, but I am getting back into it again ;) Oh and I am also doubly distracted by video games now as well.... we just got a ps3 so yeah.... more of that than ever.... XD
But back to the drawing! I decided to draw this girl last night when I got bored. I do draw sometimes in my sketchbook with pencil, but lately I have been finding that I just love the tablet so much more. Eventually I will scan my pencil drawings to the computer and work on linework... but for now, my computer is my favorite sketch pad :) I just love the flexibility of digital work, how I can lay on colours, change the colour of my lines and just plain experiment for hours!

New Year

1st blog post of the new year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and a great start to 2012 :)

Recently I did some wall paintings for 2 wonderful kids.
Football themed room :

There are footballs painted all around this room! The number 12 is Devon's football number!

Music themed room:

Both really liked their rooms, so I am happy about that!  It was nice to actually paint something again, it had been so long! Hopefully I get to do more like this in the new year :)

Colours

I found some cool fashion magazines on the discard shelf at the library on Friday. After looking through them, this is what I got. Its an old character of mine, drawn a bit differently.
I like the look of a gradient on a sketch. Dunno if I will go much further than experimentation in photoshop with this one.

IF- Round

Here's my newest Illustration Friday post! I thought of cute little sparrows, chipmunks with food in their cheeks and fat cats when I saw the word round as the topic. I decided to stick with the sparrows. Although the chipmunk would have been fun to draw....  but this was fun too!

IF- Silent Night

So while browsing various illustrators blogs the other day, I noticed that a bunch of you had posts called Illustration Friday. So I found the page, and I think its a super neat idea! The weekly themes will definitely keep me drawing. As for the picture, I was looking through some of my favorite textures, and this tiled one reminded me of snowflakes... so ofcourse I had to create the first thing that came to mind, a silent night picture! I'm glad I got that out of my system :)

Morning sketch

I woke up wanting to draw something today after a busy weekend, so I came up with this! I have wanted to work with pattern in a different way than my thesis project from last year. I like the way that a pattern can be a backdrop in a picture, but also really be integrated in the design. Anyways I did lots of different colours and effects with this one, but this is the one I liked most! I want to create more artwork like this one.

Here are some sketches from a summer trip to the ROM. it was really fun to sit and sketch, the animal exhibit is great. Just thought I would post em before I forgot about them entirely :P

 

Recipes

I'm making a recipe book for myself! I am putting all the recipes into illustrator and then I will print them out and put them into a nice recipe book. This is one of my favorite recipes. DOUGHNUT MUFFINS ARE AMAZING! They taste just like dougnuts, except not deep fried. You can put anything as a topping, but I just like the traditional cinnamon sugar one.  

 This project is good cause I am preparing myself for moving out. Not only will I have a recipe book that LOOKS nice, but I am also trying the recipes out as I go along! so, I wont be a total cooking noob. 

 This is another really really good recipe. It makes A LOT of pasta, which is okay if you like leftovers for a week or live in a house with 4 other people. :) Its so yummy! I should add pictures sometimes.

Daenerys [WIP]

I am currently reading George R.R. Martin's a song of ice and fire series, and I am loving it! It is a really amazing series. I am on the fourth book and it just keeps getting more intense. I love it so much that I decided to create my own rendition of Daenerys. She is one of my many favorite characters in the series, and her character is one of the best I have read about.  Its not complete yet, but its coming along nicely! This is the first thing I have decided to work on in a while, and I wish to do more like it!

 

Superstitions-- completed

Not sure if i have uploaded these before-- i seemed to have forgotten to add my completed pictures. These are some that i did for narrative class. My theme was superstitions and how being superstitious to such lengths can be a bad thing.
